After an Accident

Clear Care. Clear Next Steps.

Start With a Clear Evaluation

From Uncertainty to a Clear Next Step

The hours and days after an accident can feel confusing.

You may have already been to an emergency room or urgent care.

You may be dealing with an insurance company.

You may already have an attorney.

Or you may simply know that something does not feel right.

From the healthcare side, the process is simple:

Understand what happened. Evaluate your symptoms. Determine whether care, imaging, rehabilitation, referral, or another next step is appropriate.

You do not need to have every legal or insurance detail figured out before calling.

When to Be Evaluated

When Should You Be Evaluated After a Car Accident?

If you develop new pain, stiffness, headaches, limited movement, numbness, tingling, or other concerns after a collision, Summit generally recommends being evaluated as soon as reasonably possible.

Some symptoms are noticeable immediately.

Others become more obvious later that day or over the following days.

An evaluation can help document what you are experiencing and determine whether imaging, referral, or conservative care may be appropriate.

That does not mean every accident automatically requires chiropractic treatment.

It means new symptoms should be evaluated rather than guessed at.

Common Concerns

What Dr. Hiebert May Evaluate

Neck pain or stiffness

Back pain

Headaches

Shoulder or upper-back discomfort

Limited movement

Muscle soreness

Numbness or tingling

Difficulty sitting or sleeping comfortably

Discomfort with driving, work, exercise, or everyday activity

These symptoms do not automatically tell us the cause or the treatment.

That is why the evaluation comes first.

A Clear Evaluation-First Process

What Happens During an Auto Accident Evaluation?

The goal is to quickly get from uncertainty to a clear next step.

1. Tell Us What Happened

Dr. Hiebert will ask about:

When and how the accident happened

Where you were seated

What you noticed immediately afterward

When your current symptoms started

What movements or activities are difficult now

Prior emergency room, urgent care, hospital, or other treatment

Previous injuries

Existing X-rays, MRI, CT, or other imaging

Your work and daily activity

What you want to get back to doing

2. Clinical Evaluation

Depending on your symptoms, Dr. Hiebert may evaluate:

Movement and mobility

Range of motion

Strength

Sensation

Neurologic findings when appropriate

Areas of tenderness or sensitivity

Movements or positions that reproduce symptoms

How the problem is affecting normal activities

3. Imaging When Appropriate

Not every accident patient needs new imaging.

If you already have X-rays, MRI, CT, or reports from another provider, bring them when possible.

Summit also has in-house Digital X-Ray & Diagnostic Imaging when clinically appropriate.

If MRI, CT, or another advanced study appears necessary, Summit can coordinate referral to an outside imaging facility.

Imaging should support the clinical evaluation, not replace it.

4. Get a Clear Recommendation

Your next step may involve:

Care at Summit

Additional imaging

Rehabilitation

Referral to another provider

Another type of evaluation

An accident does not automatically mean you need chiropractic treatment.

Know What Comes Next

You are scheduling an evaluation, not committing to a preset accident treatment plan.

What Dr. Hiebert evaluated

What the findings may mean

Whether care at Summit appears appropriate

Whether imaging or referral is recommended

What treatment options may make sense

What the next step is

Understanding the Term

What Is Whiplash?

Whiplash is a term commonly used when the rapid movement of a collision places a sudden load on the neck and surrounding tissues.

People may notice:

Neck soreness

Neck stiffness

Difficulty turning the head comfortably

Headaches

Shoulder or upper-back discomfort

But an accident does not automatically mean you have whiplash.

And the word whiplash does not determine your treatment plan.

Dr. Hiebert will consider how the accident happened, your symptoms, how you are moving, and whether additional evaluation or imaging is needed.

The label should not replace the evaluation.

In-House Digital X-Ray When Appropriate

Summit Spine & Wellness has digital X-ray available in the clinic.

That means appropriate X-rays can be obtained without automatically sending every patient elsewhere.

But not every accident patient needs X-rays.

Imaging decisions depend on your:

History

Symptoms

Examination findings

Age

Clinical presentation

Existing imaging

What information is needed to guide care

If you already have recent imaging from an emergency room, urgent care, hospital, or another provider, bring it when possible.

Existing imaging may help avoid unnecessary repeat imaging.

What If You Need an MRI, CT, or Another Referral?

If Dr. Hiebert believes advanced imaging or another evaluation is appropriate, Summit can help coordinate referral to an outside imaging facility or another healthcare provider.

That decision may depend on:

Your symptoms

Examination findings

Existing imaging

How the problem is progressing

Whether something requires further evaluation

Being a chiropractor does not mean chiropractic needs to be the answer to every situation.

If another direction makes more sense, Dr. Hiebert will tell you.

Individualized Recommendations

Personalized Care After a Car Accident

There is no automatic “car accident treatment package” at Summit Spine & Wellness.

Recommendations are based on your findings, needs, goals, and response to care.

Depending on your situation, Dr. Hiebert may discuss:

Not every patient needs every service.

The goal is not to stack treatments onto an accident case.

The goal is to choose what makes sense for the individual patient.

Documentation & Personal Injury Care

Personal injury cases often require more documentation than a typical visit.

Summit may maintain records including:

Examination findings

Diagnoses when applicable

Treatment recommendations

Treatment notes

Progress evaluations

Imaging findings

Referrals

Billing records

With your written authorization, requested medical records, imaging reports, treatment documentation, and billing information can be provided to attorneys or other authorized parties.

Our role is to provide appropriate healthcare and accurate documentation.

We do not determine the value of your legal claim or promise a legal outcome.

Do You Need an Attorney Before Visiting Summit?

No.

You can schedule an auto accident evaluation whether or not you have an attorney.

Some patients are represented.

Others work directly with an insurance company.

Others may use PIP, MedPay, health insurance when applicable, or self-pay.

An attorney is not required to become a Summit patient.

Your Care Should Be Based on Your Progress

An accident does not create an automatic number of visits.

Recommendations should depend on:

What Dr. Hiebert finds

Your symptoms

Your goals

Your response to care

Whether additional imaging or referral becomes necessary

How your function changes over time

Progress Might Mean:

Returning to work more comfortably

Driving without constantly thinking about your neck

Sleeping more comfortably

Getting back to exercise

Handling normal household activities

Feeling more confident moving again

Dr. Hiebert’s philosophy remains the same:

Recommend the appropriate amount of care. Not more. Not less.

Not automatically. Summit has in-house digital X-ray, but imaging is based on your history, symptoms, examination findings, existing imaging, and what information is needed to guide care.

Can Summit help coordinate an MRI or CT?

Do you work with personal injury attorneys?
